Once, there was a woodchopper with skills to saw 50 trees in his first month of working. In his second month, with more experience he was able to saw 60 trees. He got same results in the third month. Then in the fourth month, he was just able to saw 40 trees and slowly decrease into 30 trees only in the fifth month.

What happened?

Apparently, he forgot to sharpen the saw. He took action, sharpened the blade. After sharpened the blade, he started back to work. His productivity increased. Start from then, a woodchopper never forgot to sharpen his saw routinely.

Applied to workplace, people work to EARN and to LEARN. To earn more, you need to learn more, i.e.: upgrading your knowledge and competencies. Similar to previous story, a woodchopper have to consistently sharpen the saw (LEARN) to increase his results (EARN).

Ironically, most employees forgot to upgrade their knowledge and skills because of “busy” reason. And because of this, their “value” never increases. Therefore, we need to spare time and money to enhance our “value”. The higher our “value” the more we get paid.
